AFL England are excited to announce that Seniors or “Supers” Footy is coming to London and England for players aged 35 and over.
The initiative led by David Field from the South East London Giants (contact below) will be aiming to have 3 London teams involved, and 1-2 from outside London. Teams will be between 9 -14 players each. Games will be played on shortened pitches in the first year whilst the league is developing.
The Supers League, although it will be competitive in its own right, will be very much geared to re-engaging people back into the game after potentially decades on the side-lines, as well as introducing locals to the sport of Aussie Rules Football in a safe, sociable and friendly way. At the end of the day, this is a perfect way to keep fit, remain sociable with people of a similar age and to stay connected to one of the best sports in the world – Aussie Rules Football.
We encourage guys in their late 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s to contact David to have a chat about how this league and Super opportunity can work for you or anyone you may know. Age will never be a barrier. If you are keen to play but are not located close enough to be able to train with the Giants, or want your club to start a Supers Team then please also get in contact.
Giants Supers players will always be welcome to train with the Giants playing group on Tuesday nights at Victoria Park (Bethnal Green) and Thursday nights at (Peckham Rye Common) both starting at 6.30pm. These training sessions will also have separate, specific skills sessions for Supers Players.
The first official match will be an Exhibition Match that will include an Anzac Day Round Robin Tournament on Sunday 23rd April 2016 at Peckham Rye Common. All participating teams will be invited to this to give each other a run in shortened games, on a shortened ground. Free BBQ and beers for all players throughout the day.
