Argent Named as New GB Swans Assistant Coach

As the Great Britain Swans continue their preparations for this year’s AFL Europe Championship in London, they have unveiled a new assistant coach, with Marcus Argent joining up with fellow Wolverhampton Wolverine and GB Swans Head Coach Ian Mitchell in the leadership of the Great Britain Women’s team.

With just under eight months to go until their defence of the AFL Europe Championship in London this October, the leadership team is now in place to ensure the team achieves its goals both on and off the pitch ahead of Europe’s biggest and most elite Australian football competition.

“Having worked with Marcus at club level I’m extremely excited to see what he can bring to the role,” said Mitchell. “I’ve seen first-hand his passion for the game, technical expertise and vast experience. I believe he’s a perfect fit to work alongside me and raise performance levels of all within the Swans setup.”

Argent hails from Western Australia and was heavily involved in Lake Grace-Pingrup Football Club both as a player and part of the leadership group from 2012 to 2015.

“Having grown up in Australia and playing the sport from a grassroots level, I have a passion for football and promoting the sport in the UK,” said Argent. “I’m excited to be on board and grateful for the opportunity to help drive the GB team forward.

“I’m looking forward to working alongside Mitch and the team and continuing to develop a strong, successful side.”

Argent’s first task will be to help prepare the Swans side for the AFL London Pre-Season Cup, which the Swans traditionally participate in. This takes place on 13th April 2019.
