It’s finals season up and down the country, with the first Australian football final of the year coming in Huddersfield as the Wolverhampton Wolverines take on the Manchester Mosquitoes after a long season in the Central & Northern England league.
The Mosquitoes will be looking for their sixth straight title, and prying their hands off the trophy they’ve held since 2014 will be a tall order for the Wolverines.
However, some of their number have already tasted glory in recent weeks. Five Wolverines were named in the victorious England Dragonslayers squad that was crowned European champions at the end of June play their club football for the Wolverines. And national teammates will become club rivals with four Dragonslayers lining up for the Mosquitoes.
There is a certain poignancy to the Wolverines’ first visit to the big dance; the club is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and after finishing clear second ahead of the Nottingham Scorpions and the Huddersfield Rams, they’ll be looking to kick off their autumn of celebration with the biggest of wins.
